I have installed windows Xp on first computer and win98 on second computer. I have installed the nic card on both the pcs and assign the ip address to both pc. I also havce checked the ping command , its working and make both computer part of MSHOME workgroup ... on win98 when I explore network ..its show the First(XP) computer , But when I try to open it for file sharing it demand password of IPC$.. When I try to map a network drive from win98 same happen. All the hardware is ok. and both pc can ping each other... how can solve this problem

create a user with a password to WindowsXP. example is "user1" with a password "user1" then create a profile or type user1 in the login of Win98 with a password of "user1" also.
then in WinXP create a folder with sharing permiission to "user1" full control or read only. It should work

When setting up a network, make sure their on the same network(wireless or lan) and have both have all the same settings(like workgroup). You need to enable file sharing and printer sharing on both.

Tips
Shared files on your computer would appear in your network places folder. You need to right click and on properties click sharing to share that folder.

Run the XP community setup wizard, then tell it to make a disc, use this floppy in win98 and it would artwork, i take advantage of a router and all of it works I absolutely have my router plugged into my XP computer with a patch and my bros computer with a patch and my moms ninety 8 with corssover, and that i imagine b4 I had my router I did it..
