I was wondering when you are trying to determine when you are ovulating do you count from the first day of your last period to the first day of your current period? Also, I have been spotting for a few days before I really start going normal so do I count the day that I started spotting as the first day of my period or the day I started going normal?

Day one of your menstrual cycle is the first day of your period. So a cycle would be the first day of your period in January to the first day of your period in February, for exmple. Most fertility charting methods will have you count the first day of actual bleeding, not spotting as "Day 1."

When determining ovulation, until I had established a pattern (for me, typically a ten day luteal phase) I counted backwards at the end of a cycle. I did this because ovulation occurs ten to sixteen days before menstruation-usually when someone isn't pregnant and has a late period it's because ovulation is delayed by stress/illness/whatever and not because the luteal phase is extended. Now, I count from the beginning of my cycle, and I know that I can expect my period about ten days after I ovulate.

No that would be cycle days..counting from the first day of one period to the next......People who have a 28 day cycle usually (not everyone) ovulate at around day 14....If you want to know exactly when you ovulate you either have to take ovulation tests or use a fertility monitor or chart you cervical mucous and basal temp or you can just try going by the cervical mucous changes that occur at certain times of the month when you ovulate you will have like egg white thick stretchy cervical mucous.....I always count the first day of my period when it starts flowing I dont count spotting...hope this helped a little...Good Luck~

Good Question...you start counting the first day of your period. Lets say you start your period tomorrow...... tomorrow would be day one and you would count all the way up until 28 (if on a normal cycle) and the next day you should start again. I am on a normal 28 day cycle and I sopt one day in the beginning. I start counting the first day I begin to spot and count for 28 days. The next day after that I start to spot again. Good luck, i hope this helps!!

yes thats the way it goes, go to www.mymonlthycycles.com, it helps you keep track of your ovulations and periods!...also i would count from the time you start spotting!..Unless theres a big gap in between!...if not then start with the day spotting!

you ovulate in the middle of your cycle, say if its a 28 day cycle then you ovulate around day 14!...first day of last period(in the middle) to the next period!

All I know is the first day of your period, not too sure about the details like that. i also know that when i am ovulating my breasts get really soar, like before i start my period and the area around my ovaries tend to ache. And I get a little moody too, it is almost like a mini-PMS for me. Hope this help you.
