All art comes from within your heart and soul. If your dance comes from within, then it is art. A sport would be something that people compete in. If you dance and compete, then it becomes a sport.

Dancing can be both an art and a sport I guess. Dancers have to be talented in what they do, but they also have to train very hard, just like athletes do. Dancing and choreographing uses the artistic/creative side of your brain, emotions and all that, so it is definitely an art. Serious dancers train, stretch, practice and practice, so it can be both! I guess it really depends on how you view it yourself, everyone's opinions are different. I heard on a program last night that dancing was 'definitely a sport, because they have to train' but but dancing is known as one of the 'arts' like music and poetry etc.

If you are in an obvious competition, it is a sport.
If you are simply moving to a beat, using your body as a form of expression, it is an art form.

Of course it can be both at the same time too :)

dance is an art form ... cheerleading is a sport.

its only others who try to use dancers for their business benifit for a trophy or recognition that have tried to make it a sport by making it competitive but THE ONLY TRUE compition you realy have in dance is your self and your own limits...
its an art and always will be.

it actually is both art and sport. You see its a sport because it works out your body, make you sweat, burns calories/fat just as sports do, but it is also art because it is beautiful and calming and can brighten your day just as great art does.

I've always heard of it being "the art of dancing".

Art, because it doesn't matter if you can get your body around three times in a turn or how high you jump, it matters what you look like doing it.

Both. Absolutely. An Athlete can't necessarily be an artist and an artist can't necessarily be athletic, but a dancer has to be both an artist and an athlete.
