Every new parent is worried that their baby might stop breathing. I used, and still do, check on my 4 month old to see if she is breathing. I had moments when I though that she did not breath and after poking her I though that she made a deep breath and started breathing again. I still don’t know, but think that I was imagining it, and she was just breathing quietly, usually this happens in her sleep. You said that the baby is 2. did he recently get his vaccines? This could have lead to him being unresponsive or he could have just be tired and sleepy. Sometimes when my little girl is really tired and sleepy she stares into blank space without blinking and does not respond to me. That freaks me out allot.
There is really nothing that anyone can say to ease your mind. If you feel that he really was not breathing go to the ER and have him checked, but most likely you did not notice him breath. You can also co-sleeping with him to monitor his breathing, place your hand on his tummy, but practice caution, and if you are a deep sleeper don’t do it.

If you think there is a problem then by all means go to the Doctors immediately. If you have a local nurse advice line you can call it. Some Er's will even take calls. If all else fails, call your mom and get the reassurance that you are a good parent and it will be OK. As new parents sometimes that is the most important thing..after that trust your gut, it will not lead you down the wrong path.

Call your pediatricians office and get the doctor on call there to give you a buzz this evening and ask then what advice they have for you. I would definitely let him sleep between me and hubby and pay attention to breathing abnormalities. If you are truly scared you can always call your local hospital and ask the ER nurses there. A mother always knows so trust your instincts!!
Unresponsive and lack of breathing could have a ton of reasons why. RSV ( a common virus but very dangerous) could be one reason. Dehydration? Brain issues - seizures? But don't worry to much until you talk to your doctor. Be sure to fill him in on all the details and don't leave anything out!!!
Good Luck

One thing that you can do right now is call a nurse help line. Most cities have these and they are a free service. You can talk to a nurse and explain what happened and they will let you know if you need to take him in or if everything is fine.
You can search "nurse line" and you city to finf a number to call.

You can never be too careful, take him to the doctor, if something is wrong then he can get the help he needs and if he is fine then you will feel better. Go with your gut
