i think "others" is taken up by....
album covers
lyrics if u put any in
the information ie title, artist, album name...etc
if you download songs from weird website and the artist name or album names is like 5 million letters long, u need to rename some of them... that's why it's important to organize your library.
that's what i think, you can try it at least...

Is your iPod set up with Disk Use enabled? If so, that makes it act like an external hard disk, are you sure you haven't put any other files onto it?

Other than that, usually about 20-30 megs on mine is taken up by "other", just for the iPod's firmware.
