Ok car guys I'm counting on you. I have an Olds Acheiva 3.1L engine. Power locks, power windows, power steering and ABS brakes. Is set up for air but dosen't have it any longer. Tonight my charge light comes on faintly when braking. I replaced the battery about 2 weeks ago, so I know it isn't the battery. I have been noticing a high pitch whine over the last week. Am I dealing with a generator/alternator problem or a belt problem. I should say here that the volt gauge is staying at around 13 when nothing but the head lights are on. If the heater, radio and rear defrost are on as well it drops down to just before the red low volt's line.

Lend a hand, I am not dumb about car's, just THIS car...
Thanks in advance!

i think its time to get your alternator ckecked....

your alternator should be putting out about 14.4 to 14.6 volts....

13 is not enough to charge your battery and run the computers in your car...

get a new alternator

good luck!!

Either it is your alternator going bad or the belt somehow came loose. If you can get the alternator off the car, some parts stores will test them for you free of charge. Hope you figure it out. Good Luck!

I agree. It's time to have your charging system checked, including the alternator. Are your battery cables clean and tight? No corrosion present on the battery cables? With the whine noise present it very well could be a problem with your alternator.

no way in H3LL is that standard, your mum and dad could be coping with the charges, and the babies, in the experience that your 19 12 months previous brother needs to stay and help thats widely used, and intensely powerful on your mum and dad im particular....yet thats an extremely atypical situatioin, pray to god that CPS doesnt pay attention approximately that... it extremely is widely used back in spite of the undeniable fact that for the 5 and eight 12 months previous to have chores, each and every newborn could have a set of chores... Why arent your mum and dad looking after there toddlers? Why are YOU paying the sunshine bill? No teen decrease than 18, residing along with his mum and dad could could pay ANY charges! And as for being mom or father of your 13 12 months previous sister? I dont get what you propose...in the experience that your in basic terms watching her like babysitting each and every as quickly as in awhile, thats widely used too. yet your mum and dad could shelter the charges ... nuff reported,.

it sounds like your alternator needs to be replaced if you replace it replace that belt what goes around it. befor you start buying any parts go to AutoZone and ask them to check the chargeing styem they will bring a tester out to your car and it only takes about 5 mins or less and it's FREE. that will tell you if anything is going on with it. www.autozone.com

good luck
hope this helps

I would take it to a auto parts store where they will check your charging system. Sounds like an alternator problem to me...
