Rudy, if the hard disk has converted to RAW, then most likely all the files and OS has been overwritten, Reformat the hard drive and reinstall the OS, make sure you have drivers for the sound card, monitor, modem, etc. they will be needed if you reinstall... Good Luck

Hard to diagnose your problem based on such a brief question but I have had a similar experience with my hard drive when I accidentally set up my hard drive for a quick format. What a quick format does is it erases the boot sector but keeps all the data intact thus the reason for it being a "quick" format, what it does is it keeps the rest of the data intact but tricks the system into thinking the hard drive is empty once you reinstall Windows but in actually as you accumulate more space on you overwrite the previous data.
I am hoping this is the case because I have gone through such a disaster but I realized the hard drive was still in good condition. If so then
1) you should find a good DOS program to load while your system boots up to diagnose the hard drive. the program that I have used and is incredibly simply, stress free and really works is the BootFix Utility, if you google it you should be able to find it which is included in Hiren's latest BootCD (BTW a great tool that I have used countless times for various messes that my computer has gotten into or somebody elses I have come across)

2)the reason why I recommend BootFix Utility is that it is just a one click program. Once you click Fix or Repair it will do the rest for you, you just have to follow the on screen instructions and do the rest and hopefully all your files are still there.

3)if it may be just a file type system error and you are able to boot into Windows then I suggest you go into control panel->Administrative Tools-> Computer Management ->Left side tab "Disk Management" and find the hard drive that has suddenly turn to RAW and convert it back to NTFS.

P.S. - If the hard drive that has turned RAW has no space in it as in 0 kb's, mb's, gb's, etc and it says device is not formatted then I highly suggest you do nothing and proceed to the first step. Nothing you do now in Windows will repair the hard drive if that is the case.

....Forget about the screwdriver . Try a system recovery software. I like iolo's System Mechanic, but there are others. If you have no luck there, you may want to simply reformat. If a virus has entered the system, you might want to "Wipe" the hard drive prior to reinstalling an OS. I like White Canyon's "WIPE DRIVE' but there are others. You just want to be certain that you have removed all traces of the infection or you'll possible have a recurrence. Good Luck.

some working platforms, alongside with abode windows XP, won't enable you to format a force in FAT32 mode any bigger than 32GB. you could examine the sturdy article from Microsoft I lined as a source. I suddenly met this project years in the past. What I did at that element became ran the FDISK application and partitioned my problematical force (which became a 40GB) right into a C: logical force that became 8GB and a D: logical force that became 32GB in length. besides the incontrovertible fact that, now abode windows gives you the skill to format the force in NTFS mode rather of FAT32. I did that on my greater cutting-edge drives and have had no issues ever in view that. keep in mind that in case you have older utility that still runs in DOS mode, you'll be able to run into issues utilising NTFS formatted drives. abode windows XP would not seem to deal with the older utility nicely.
