What are some restaurants where you pay the check/for the meal(s) and the tip at the table, as opposed to taking the check to a counter or front desk to pay it?

This could be a house or management rule or a health board rule as well.

In some cases a waiter would be called to handle money and then have to return to the kitchen to pick up food.

Money is absolutely disease ridden.

I think it good that you can pay up front.

If the house and the cashier are honest.
The server will get all their tips esp point of sale slips from visa, debit etc.

One other thing is pace.
If the restaurant is busy the server simply concerns themselves with service.
It all depends on the establishment as to what motiviates them.

Nearly any coffee shop, or place that serves dinner has the waitress double as a cashier.
I think Denny's and IHOP maybe the only ones that make you go to the counter to pay.

Typically classier establishments will bring the check to your table.
When you take the tab to the register you're in a family style place.
