There are many things that can cause pain in the lower right side of the abdomen...( I assume that you mean abdomen not "stomach") First, with pregnancy the hormones change, and ligaments relax so that they can stretch, the pelvic bones need to "stretch" and widen to accomodate the baby and prepare for birth. The ligaments in the lower portion of the abdomen sometimes hurt. Also, the intestines tend to get uncomfortable due to constipation, sometimes the ascending colon (lower and upper right side of abd) gets uncomfortable, and the descending colon (left side) as well. Make sure to drink plenty of water, eat a well balanced diet, communicate with your Dr., and don't feel "stupid" about asking questions because Doc's don't read minds and they get paid to answer your questions! The only stupid question is the one you don't ask!! Minor discomforts go with pregnancy, things to worry about are: Sudden onset of cramping, bleeding, headaches that don't go away, blurred vision, etc. If you are not sure of something, and you are worried - give the office a call (don't overdo it tho) ask for a nurse to return your call. Try to keep a list to ask the Dr at your appt. If the problem seems serious to you, call 911 or have someone take you to the emergency room. It is also good to have a phone "buddy" that has had a baby who can answer some of those questions. We all have them, and worry is not good for us. Good Luck, and God Bless!!!

I had the same thing when I was about that many weeks. Since the pain was so bad that it woke me up out of my sleep, my OB said to go straight to the ER. The ER doctor didn't see anything serious. I later found out that some women experience pain in the beginning due to ligaments in their abdomen being stretched as the body prepares for the baby.
You'll be fine:). But if you're really concern, your best bet would be to call your OB ASAP.

Yes i didn't experience the same thing but on my left side. I went to the doctor just to be sure nothing was wrong and he said basically the it is my uterus stretching and that is the dull pain

I bet nothing is wrong. Due to congestion of blood in your pelvis, you may need to urinate more frequently than usual and have slight pains. Also, you may notice that you are more tired than usual. Not surprising considering all the changes your body is going through.

it's no biggie : ) you're only 5 weeks along so it's definately your muscles and ligaments stretching, sometimes it is painful... don't worry. but if you are experiencing serious pain and or bleeding call the doc right away. other than that it's completely normal!!! congrats!!!

I had that in the beginning too. I was told by my ob, that as long as it doesn't become very painful and isn't accompanied by bleeding its fine and is just round ligament stretching (meaning your uterus is expand to accommodate the baby).

some women get cramps pulling and aching after they get preg its just your uterus getting used to things. dont worry unless it hurts alot than call dr or go to hospital. you can always go to the hosp if your unsure and they are obligated by law to do a sonogram to make sure its in a good spot and your ok

Yes, I experienced the same thing. Totally normal. It's the uterus stretching. As long as you're not bleeding you're fine.

The best thing to do is contact your doctor to make sure it's nothign, they might have you go in for a urine test to see about a possible infection, etc. Or it could be as simple as gas.
