I'm looking for a poet whos poems DO NOT relate to love. I'm looking for someone who writes poems about FUN stuff, you know? I'm looking for someone different and unique. Whom would you recommend for a 9th grader?

T.S. Elliot is a good one, try Robert Frost. One of his greatest poems (my personal favorite) "Road Less Travelled" is not about love and is fun to analyze.

I would recommend Robert Service. He wrote poems about life in the Yukon during the Alaska Gold Rush. "The Shooting of Dangerous Dan McGrew" and "The Cremation of Sam McGee" are classics.

Shel Silvestein is awesome. He's very popular, too, so you may not be the only one doing him. But he's probably the best fun poet out there (even at a time when I hated poetry I still liked him), and again you may be the only one who does him, too.

For a 9th grader I wouls say Nikki Giovanni. Her poems are great, not about love, and she is often over looked.

For fun - either Ogden Nash or Lewis Carroll.
