I have spent already a great deal of time researching. I have used the Garmin 550 already and it does the job. However I find Garmins quite expensive when compared with TomToms. e.g. the 910 offers US, Canada, Europe maps for less $$ than a regular Garmin.... Help me!! :)

Yes, I agree Garmin is the best. First of all if anything ever goes wrong with your unit, you can call Garmin customer support and they are really helpful and nice. Also, I would highly suggest a Nuvi, they are great! If you were to buy a new Nuvi, it would of course have the most current information on every road in America. They can also do lots of other cool stuff (depending on the model) such as get gas prices and movie schedules in your area, detect traffic jams and automatically route you around them, play MP3's, read audio books to you, connect to your blue-tooth phone and act as a caller ID and speaker phone, and the coolest thing I think is mine has a travel guide which will translate certain phrases into other languages and speak them for you!
All of these cool features plus the dependable customer support I think makes the Garmin worth the extra money.
If you get another Garmin (especially a NUVI) you wont be disappointed!

pass with TomTom or Garmin. i latterly had a houseguest who's an engineer for a employer that makes lots of the chips used in gps gadgets and he strongly cautioned TomTom and Garmin as having the acceptable and maximum as a lot as date maps and the present gps technologies.
