It's great, I mean, it's so hard to go back to school, everything you've learned in HS is long gone, but they do it anyway. They are so much more serious about it though (like look at me, I could be reading...) and they know what they're after now (unlike me, little miss "undeclared" here)

The advantage is that you're more dedicated than your younger classmates in that you understand that when the professor wants something done, he wants it done, and not with a communal effort.
The disadvantage is that your brain has started to calcify, and it sometimes happens that those dumb kids with their hats on sideways can learn stuff faster. You're actually okay in your 30's, but if you start a graduate program when you're in your 40's like we did, it can be an adventure.
On the other hand, the health service physicians loved us because they got to cure things on us that most students never get. And we got through, too, if only because we were able to stare down the professors better than anyone else.

I say go for it! in school i was generally drawn to people older than me and found that i could learn a lot from them. as for older people in class that isnt a big deal at all...and anyway dont not go back just because of what you think the silly kids will think. of the different colleges and universities ive been to ive found that in cities and at community colleges there are more people that didnt just get out of high school so you might feel more comfortable in those situations...but really it doesnt matter do what you want/have to do!
good luck:)

I spent 12 years in the military and would have stayed longer but unfortunately I was injured and had to get out of the military. I wandered a couple of years and decided to go back to school. Best decision I have ever made. I think I am enjoying college more than if I had gone straight out of high school. I have made friends with several other 30 somethings in college. 30 somethings are not uncommon to see on most college campuses. Go for it! Learning should never stop.

I think it is an awesome idea. I just graduated with my Bachelor's degree. I am now 24, started when I was 18. I never thought anything negative about older classmates, in fact I always appreciated their company and opions. It is always great to have diversity. Also, just FYI, most colleges/universities have a nontraditional student organization, this is for older students and students who are parents. It is helpful and a good place for you to start if you are interested in enrolling. Good Luck and Go For It!

i think its great that they have the guts and determination to go back to school knowing its going to be a lot of hardwork and most everyone one there will be younger than them. in several of the classes i've had already there have been people ranging from 25-50.
the only time that the older students bother me is when they start everything they say with "well my kids..." or when they are constantly raising their hand to ask the prof to repeat stuff that is already listed on the online resources given.
if you're thinking about going back, definetely do it! there are so many great things that will come your way because of a college diploma.

I think it is wonderful. Both of my parents returned to school after having hard jobs and raising children, and my sister, who just turned 35, got her bachelor's degree a couple of years ago. I believe when someone chooses to go to school when they are a little older and have some life experience, they do better because they want to be there. They can really understand the benefits they'll receive.

it's great!, because not only they respect you for being an older fella but they come to you and ask questions, they assume we already know everything. It's never too late to go back to school.
This is my second year after taking a break for 10 years, family comes first, but now I'm in a place where I know what I want.
It's amazing, I'm having the best time of my life!.

i don't care! a couple years ago, there was a lady in my lecture who was about 50, and last year in my history class, there were about 4 or 5 people who had to be at least 60 or 70! i only wish i have the energy to learn new things when i'm that age!

Ii think it's great. I've taken classes with older people, and even though it seems odd, they really have a greater perspective based on their experience in life.
I swore that I would get my degree even if I was 80, and I still mean it.
