I hope goes up the 40 bucks a gallon or more, the real cost in deaths, permanent injures, air/noise pollution, fried nerves, our quality of life, to those overseas and to the Planet would be much higher..if those things were quantifiable.

Barring some catastrophy in the Middle East, (which I'm not entirely ruling out,) prices probably won't hit $5 for a while, and almost certainly not this summer. In fact, the rate of price-rises has seemed to have fallen in the past couple of months. It is still going up, of course, but it doesn't seem to be going up as fast.

What worries me is that people probably would pay $5, so eventually OPEC is going to raise it that high. The bottom line is that there is no easy alternative to driving- public transportation is rare and inconvenient in most places. Plus, a realistic look at America makes me highly doubt that our people would be willing to walk or bike-ride very frequently. The Middle East is just milking the supply/demand situation for all it's worth. (Enjoy it while you can, OPEC- ANWAR drilling is on it's way!)

If it does, I won't be driving. I can't afford that junk. I doubt it will go that high though. Wouldn't be surprised if it was $3.50 a gallon.

The price of gas depends on the law of demand and supply. Venezuela must produce more oil to lower the prices in US.

No. I know gasoline is getting outrageous, but I can't see it hitting that kind of extreme.

I love my gas guzzling Denali. I don't care if gas goes to $100.00 a gallon I'm still gonna drive it with my foot to the floor. It goes REALLY fast since I reprogrammed the chip. Hehe!
