Seems like a great computer, but in order for us to really determine, you need to tell us what you're paying and we will tell you if we think it's worth it or not.

The specs are good but do not get a HP or Dell laptop because i work in IT and they come back for repair all of the time. Acer and Toshiba are the most reliable laptops that i have found. For a 17 inch screen look at the Toshiba Qusmio range.
Also consider if you really need the huge screen because with a laptop 15.4 is usually big enough and they have a heaps better battery life, as well as you will save yourself hundreds of dollars just by getting the 15.4 inch screen instead of the 17
If you are mainly using it for games you would be better off to get a desktop if you are not carrying it around much because they are cheaper and more reliable than laptops as well as have cheaper parts.
Note: LOW said that you need an installation disc not a recovery disk, they are the same thing. You don't get just a windows disk any more because people were cracking them and using them on other computers. Recovery disks are really easy to use and in about 10 min restore the computer to the way it was and format it at the same time so it is easer than a windows disk.

Sir, do not get hung up on Brand Names! All the stuff, just about, comes off the shelf!
Go on line to several sites that will allow you to configure your own LAP TOP, .i.e Amount of RAM, hard drive size, graphic card or not, etc.
The important elements: CPU type, Intel Dual core is the fastest, AMD is go price performance.
7200RPM hard drive is better than 5400 (slower)
SATA is better than IDE, DVD burner + and - w/CD read/write. 2GB RAM better than one.
Graphic card is better than on board graphics (require total CPU activity, while a card has its own CPU.
If you can see the computer, LOOK at the screen! Let your eyes tell you if they like the quality of the picture! Let that be your first test, then all the other things listed!
ALL new system, coming on to the market WILL have VISTA! Get a discount if XP is offered!
Both wireless and Ethernet ready!
You want an Installation CD NOT A RECOVER DISK. You cannot reinstall the system with a recovery disk! A recover disk is NOT a copy of the VISTA INSTALLATION DISK!

The model of notebook (dv9260nr) you are looking is one of the best models from HP under Pavilion line of Laptops.
However, The Sims2 is a game with the following requirements:
*2.0 GHz processor
*256 MB RAM if Windows XP
*128 MB RAM if Windows 98, Windows ME, or Windows 2000
*At least 3.5 gigs of free hard drive space
Since the Notebook comes with the NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 video card, the game would be working great on this laptop.
All the best with your new laptop.
For you reference you can find the system specifications (dv9260nr) from the following link:

It will play anything more than good and on high. Not on max settings I doubt for high quality games, but for things like Sim, yeah. You could go cheaper if you just play games like that.
