Is that why we keep writing amendments?

How long before all the amendments completely cancel out the original meanings of the constitution?

How relevant is the constitution when a president can come along and write "Acts" that encroach on it? Like The Patriot Act and the 2007 Defense Authorization Act?

I think this is a very good question. I don't think the constitution should be messed with. Some amendments over the years have been necessary to address issues that didn't exist in the 1700's. But other amendments, were harmful, because they only favored the so called Elites. Like the 16th amendment, specifically.

The purpose of the constitution has always been to protect the people from the government, and from the possibility of tyranny!

I think we should make sure that it can continue to do its job. Abolish the Patriot Act, and Abolish the 2007 Defense Authorization Act, and the Homeland Security Act, and any thing else that takes our rights and freedoms away, because if we don't take our rights and freedoms back now....we may never be able to get them back.!!!!

The Constitution will always need tweeking. The writers of the document realized that they were capable of mistakes, so they left the Constitution open to future alteration.
