This is impossible to answer because Louisiana and the port of New Orleans was a gateway for trade. To really understand this you must study the history of slavery and that region. Louisiana was the port for every slave state up and along the Mississippi River. The previous answers are invalid because there was no particular region of Africa on the west coast where they were stolen from Africans forcefully traded were never solely kept in the state of Louisiana. Especially since New Orleans was a major trading outlet, buyers from other slave states would come to Louisiana to buy slaves. Actual fact leads to real answers. Unless you can trace the genealogy of descended slaves back to Africa, which is almost impossible because there was no written history by the slaves themselves and being illiterate at the time they would not know anything about their present or past geography. Only written history available would be trading logs from the ships and records kept by the buyers, And documents like that from 1600-1860 are rare, so good luck obtaining anything like that!

I honestly don't know - it's a very intelligent question. However I must point out that when the slaves were taken from Africa (A Continent, to be sure), they were usually taken from European colonies in Africa or from indigenous KINGDOMS.

P.S. the term "State" throughout history has traditionally meant a sovereign Nation or Kingdom, rather than a unit like Texas.

country in Africa -- you mean. most Africa American slaves are believed to him come from the Niger - Congo area. Nigeria, Liberia, Niger, Sierra Leon, Congo, -- transported to south particularly Ghana for sale. However, some came from as far East as Somalia. (although east african slaves tended to be sold in the mid-east) It simply depended on the period and the political situation on the Continent during that time.

from those of us talking out of our asses. You are misinformed all slaves were not illiterate. Why don't you start with "the interesting life of Gustavas Vassey or Oulada Equiano the African". It is by the way not the only account by a slave brought from Africa to America - Equanio says he came from Nigeria. Phyllis Wheatley describes the trip she took from the interior to the coast combined with the religion she practiced it is obvious she also came from the Niger-Congo area.
