I found out today that I can't have a VBAC like I wanted. My daughter will be two months shy of 6yrs old when this baby is due and the ob doesn't think that's a wide enough timespan to try it. So I now have to have a scheduled csection. With my daughter I had it at 39 weeks but only because I had placenta margina and it was detaching before she dropped down.

What I want to know is for those of you who have had a scheduled csection...when does the doctor normally schedule it? Week 38 or 39? Or do they wait until your due date and have it done on that day? And in general, what is the most popular day of the week and/or time that they do it on? Thanks in advance.

P.S. I'm 17wks right now and my due date is 8/8/07

It is ave. any time after 37 weeks to schedule a c-section.
They will tell normally a month or more in advance unless it is a emergency. I bet you will know by 20 weeks because you have already had a c-section.

As the day of the week. Each doctor has there own days for surgery. Hard to tell you that. Ask the nurse when you go in next time she would know what his surgery days are.

Congrats on your summer baby!

I have read that many hospitals and doctors are categorically discouraging (or even banning) VBACs because they believe it places them at risk legally. They won't necessarily tell you this because it makes them sound mercenary, but they have dozens of "reasons" why a VBAC isn't feasible. I have several friends who wanted a VBAC, and not ONE of them was successful in getting their wish. There was always a good reason why.

I think the health care industry underestimates the value of an empowering birth experience to a woman. I can't help but think that there is something wrong when close to a third of all births in our country is by Cesarean. It's interesting that most other countries do not have the same c-section statistics, and in some cases their infant mortality rate is actually lower. Of course, most other countries do not have as many lawyers as we do, either.

I sure did get on my soapbox. But hey, I'm not an expert, and the goal IS a healthy baby. I'd probably go for the Cesarean, too. I just wish I didn't get this nagging feeling that women are being marginalized.

Your first born is 6 years old, and the doctor doesn't think that's a long enough gap?
My sister tried for a VBAC less than 3 years after her c-section.... two days of labour, and 3 1/2 hours of pushing later... she ended up needing another c-section because of the dangers of the previous c-section.

As far as scheduling a c-section... I think they give you some options, when your doctor is available for surgery... and you get to pick the B-day. It'll be around 40 weeks, give or take a week.

They're going to want you to have the baby as close to the due date as possible. If there is nothing that causes the c-section to be performed sooner (like with your previous pregnancy) then the longer the baby is able to develope the better. No need to rush things. So 40 weeks would be best.

well girl i have had two scheduled c sections so i know what your going through...my pelvic bones are to small so all my children have to be born c section...with your first born they do the c section right at or on your due date...but i think i read that you have a child already so in that case they will want to do the c section at least a week before your due date reason being is they dont want you to go into labor and the closer it is to your due date the more likely you will go into labor so that is why they do it early...hope this helps...and girl dont listen to people that dont know what they talking about cause all those people who say you have it when you due is wrong you dont want to go into labor duh!!!

Most doctors will schedule them within the 38th week. My dr. has a set day he does his c-sections on, unless of course you know, it is an emergency. He does them on fridays, and some on wednesdays...
He always does the of a morning too!

Congrats and God Bless....

A scheduled C-Section is performed when you schedule it. Of course, you probably won't be able to schedule it until you're a few weeks from your due date.

My wife scheduled for the 39th week of her second pregnancy. We found it very convenient to be able to do so.

I have not had a c section, so I will not advise anything about that. But, I do know that statistically, Monday morning surgeries are smoother than any other time of the week. If you can't do it Monday morning, then do it on a weekday in the morning.
