i don't believe they should. and why do i believe that. well my wages are garnished for the 2 children i have despite the fact that my ex will not allow me to visit the children at all and we have a court order that says she has to let me see them at least every second weekend and for half the holidays.
the other problem i have is that i now have a new wife and a child on the way and with the money that goes to the first wife and family i will have difficulty providing for my new family. finally my ex wife has remarried and her new husband earns a good income, i don't mind helping my children but i do object to my money being used to support a lavish lifestyle for my ex and her new partner. i can't afford a holiday (or to even take time off) to enjoy myself but my ex and her partner have just left for a holiday to Europe

I used to think that they should be thrown in jail. I was a single Dad with full custody. I did not receive child support for a long time. I went through all the motions and I received little in return. In the long run, it caused even more problems and my kids never saw their mother. I think that even if the other parent is useless, the kids should still see them and attempt to have a relationship. Being thrown in jail won't allow that to happen. Garnish wages = Definitely

Their wages are garnished, as should be. If they are jailed though, how are they supposed to pay their child support? Makes no sense to me. Also, in my state, their drivers license is taken away. How are they suppose to get to work, the ex? (If you are a licensed in anything here its revoked).
So, on why they shouldn't be, maybe if they can afford the support but don't do it, then they deserve it.
Good luck, it's so complicated either way...

Sweetie, wages are already garnished on deadbeat parents and when they don't pay they are jailed.

I do think that non custodial parents should have to pay. It shouldn't be the sole responsibility of the custodial parent. What I don't think is fair is that non custodial parents are also forced to pay for medical as well. On top of wage garnishments medical benefits are also being deducted making the non custodial parent even more broke - in some situations. How fair is that?

thats a hard paper to do... if you want real answers for it, go to the 'fathers rights' and 'fathers against child support' sites online. that would be the first place i'd be copy and pasting from. :)

honestly, it would be hard for me to think of answers too, because its effective. LOL!

heres some of them:
http://www.fathershelphotline.com/
http://www.ancpr.org/

want me to tell you what i see/read online about it?
boo hoo... how can i work if i'm in jail (when they are all really just short stays until they cough up a chunk of cash)
boo hoo... i have to take the bus to work 'cause i didnt pay support for five years
boo hoo... i have to make my own lunch
boo hoo... i cant afford my payments on my nice new shiney truck
boo hoo... they took my new shiney truck
boo hoo... i'm laid off and still have to pay (works under the table)
OMG i almost forgot the BEST ONE!
boo hoo... i cant afford my child support and still keep making babies.

etc etc etc
YUCK
no matter what i see, i never see them mention what is best for thier kids.

garnished to me is better than jail b/c if you put them in jail they cant work..but in AZ where i lived for a short time, dead beats reported to jail on the weekends, so they had their wages garnished and went to jail..a win/win for me

Well, if it's your homework assignment, you should be figuring it out.

It's why you were given the assignment, so you could learn to think critically. They're trying to teach you to think of all the angles.

That said, maybe it would help to put yourself in the deadbeat's position. What would their reasons be?

It would cost alot more if you lived together, and They Are YOUR CHIRLDREN! Why not would you not want want to help the mother of your children, the women you use to want to be married to, help take care of your children in anyway you can. Talk it out. Good Luck.

maybe, I think they are responsible for their own children,
and should pay for the expense of it. I do think that they have
no right to visit the kids if they're not paying...

You picked the wrong side. There are no reasons why they shouldn't be.
