I had this problem and it was just awful, ,and humiliating. During my anger outbursts, I couldn't stop myself. It was like it wasn't ME, but like I was watching a movie. I would shake and everything. It was TOTALLY uncontrollable. I went to counseling, and was put on Trileptol. This medication is used for seizure patients, but the chemical in the brain that causes seizures also causes anger outburts. Yes, I still get angry, but I don't have those episodes and it's made my life so much better. Counseling first, and then they can suggest what you should do.

I too had the same problem when I was younger. It took me a long time to find a solution. I still have a temper once in a great while, but very rarely anymore.
Think about this. When you are usually showing these angry outbursts you are concentrating on something very hard or doing something requiring you to use up all your physical or mental energy to complete it. You are taking what you are doing way too seriously. If you start looking at things from the standpoint of if it gets done then fine, if not then that's fine too! You can still make an effort, but will your life come to standstill if it isn't finished right away? Will the world come to an end if you can't get it done at all? I have even had times that I have trouble working on something and I imagime that my buddy has somehow played a joke on me so I couldn't get it done to begin with. If you try to find humor in life's little problems it makes it much easier to cope with them. When you get to the point that things are getting to you try putting everything in your hands down, stick your thumbs in your ears and while holding them there, wave your fingers around and stick your tongue out at what is giving you the problem. It may be childish, but so is throwing something when you get mad. Hell, you may even find it funny enough to laugh at yourself for and calm you down enough to get the job done. Life's too short to get mad and laughing is much more fun. (That's why you don't see many circus clowns convicted of murder!!!!!)

Have your partner really confront you with what she thinks you are doing. Get anger management courses, it is part of reality not part of hurting someone you love very much. If you want to be treated with love you have to act in love. Life is too short to darken the only thing in life that makes you a person. She is there to make you realise that you are human and make mistakes, but she is also there to tell you if you are handling you anger wrong or inappropriate. Every time you get angry think about how much you love her and don't want to hurt the one person in life that understands you the most. Take care Heather

Talk to your good friend of yours about your temper. Talk to them about what makes you frustrated and what makes you angry. Also think about where you learned that behaviour of throwing things. If you know where you learned that behaviour, try to change that behaviour into something more constructive, such as basketball, squash, tennis, or simply running.

It seems that your current relationships with people are not fulfilling ones. Maybe you expect too much from that relationship; maybe you are seeing that your relationship cannot provide you with every need in you; maybe you are thinking that the people in your relationship must be able to meet your needs and expectations, when they clearly cannot. Every relationship needs work, and every relationship cannot provide everything you expect. Bear this in mind.

Find an anger management counselor and go to a doctor. It may also be some kind of chemical imbalance.

You have deeply rooted anger issues. A good therapist, one you actually LIKE, will help you get them out.
