Now that Norv is working with a team where he is not stuck with control freak meddlesome owners who won't let him coach without constant interference, will he produce better results??? The Chargers have lots of young talented players, unlike the Raiders and Skins who had a lot of old vets on their last legs. So, will the Chargers be in serious contention for a SuperBowl win in the upcoming season? Or should the Chargers have stuck with MartyBall? Signed, Raider Fan

Good point, but NEVER underestimate the Al Davis factor....nobody has done more damage to the Raiders than Good old Al.

HEY...Good answers so far...I believe that the Chargers will do well in spite of Norv, not because of him...The Chargers have too much talent

Well...lots of different opinions here. Now that Norv has a good team and better owners, he has no excuses, and I think that he will still flounder. As far as Al Davis...I have been a Raider fan since the 1970's, and I have watched him screw the team up for years. He meddles with the coaches and won't let them do their job, and he is known for making really piss poor bizarre draft picks. Why do you think that Gruden left??? That was one of Al's bigger blunders. Should I point out how Al dealt with Marcus Allen...another great Al moment. Not enough space here to tell all the Al stories. He SUCKS and is the main reason why the Raiders are doing so poorly lately. Al should sell the team.

Here is the thing, he does have the talent. Can he MOTIVATE them though. I think Marty was able to motivate that team more then people are giving him credit for. Also don't forget that the rest of the staff is changing. It isn't like he is keeping the same Coordinators, even THAT could help him. See I don't think he will be any good. Although as you say he was stuck with control freaks. I think that hurts him in this job though. I think he doesn't know how to run a team as a coach now. He is used to being told what to do as a coach and I think he will be lost a little in his first year. Let's see if he can last past one year. Maybe by late in the year even he will do better. On the other hand I also question if he will really be in charge or did the GM pick him and the GM will still be running things.

Same as he did in Oakland. As a Raider Fan, Know I can Start Dreaming about it. The Chiefs will soon have trouble with both the offensive line and the QB, both because of ageing. Then you got the broncos who will start a new QB and have no more the Running Game they once had. The Chargers have a Coach worst than all the rest from the Division. Eventhough Kiffin hasn't won a game yet, I bet he can perform a more Explosive offense than Turner did. I mean Turner got all the Credit from both Smith(49ers) and Aikman(Cow's) early success. I bet a million bucks, that both of them would've had the same or more success without him. He is Overated as an Assistant, because they give him the best QB's to coach. Dont tell me they will give him all the credit for Rivers Success when Rivers already proved he doesnt really need him to play good.
The Chargers arent going nowhere till Turner exits the city. I dont care if he has the Dream Team of the NFL. The guy cant Coach.
The Raiders are young and have no Offense, but do have an owner who gets a playmaker year after year and is willing to trade to solve their problems.
The Chiefs are getting old and have no D.
The Broncos have no running game and I dont see their QB taking them nowhere soon.
The Q? is who will win the Division?

1st of all, no they wont be superbowl champs next year. let me explain why. norv turner is and always has been a coattail rider, he comes in after a successful coach leaves and basically does the exact same thing the old coach did. the raiders have fantastic players and one of the best coaching staffs in the league, but because of the inability to find a decent coach since gruden left, they have been stuck with random coach pics coming in and not doing anything. now about al davis, the reason the NFL is what it is today is because of that man, so i refuse to bad mouth him. he knows football better than any man who has ever graced the field, but due to some of the more recently induced rules of the nfl, he cant do everything that he needs to do to make the raiders a great team in 1 season, so he has to gamble, he had it with gruden, after almost 10 years of being the underdog. and now i expect it to take another 10 years before the team is truly great again...but anything can happen so we'll see.

Dont bet money on the chargers this year. Look at Norv Turner and Oakland. A year after going to the Superbowl with Grudens team, what happened? They sucked. That may have had something to do with management as well but dont forget that it was only a year ago that the Chargers had almost the same team and missed the playoffs. I would have stuck with Marty.

Thank you for letting me take a bite at this one. Norv Turner is a head coaching fraud living off his Dallas days with the best OL ever assembled along with the "Triplets." San Diego will regress and even if they make the playoffs, his style will do them in. He's a yes man, a butt kisser, and "used abused and yesterdays news." Rex Ryan and his 3-4 would of been a perfect fit. Yet, they keep recycling these media friendly schmucks like Turner and not giving 40 somethings like Ryan and Russ Grimm a chance.

thats a tricky question, heres why...he could easily do better than he did at those two spots because he had an afwul record in both places and his talent level wasnt a fraction of what they have currently in San Diego...now can he put together a better record than Marty did last year? that would be tough because a 14-2 regular season record is living pretty high on the hog...but, one must see how he gets along with this GM...AND...he has history of not being successful as a head coach, but successful as a co-ordinator...I personally dont think they will be quite as good, because they lost the D and O coaches who were pretty good...and other teams will scheme on defense to stop LT and force Rivers to throw to beat them...

I think he'll do a similar job next year as he has in the past. Only next year he should have much better success. He inherits a talented team at most positions except wide receiver.
I am skeptical though about the Chargers getting deep in the AFC playoffs. They'll go 12-4, win one home playoff game, then they'll fire Turner.

Who ever said he did a good job in either Washington or Oakland? He's getting too outdated. I'm sorry, but Norv Turner is not the answer for the Chargers.

Not sure. He might just because the Chargers are a better team. When he went for the skins job, they were an average team at best. When he went to Oakland, they sucked.
I mean even if he does a bad job, the way the Chargers are built right now, they would still make the playoffs.

Of course he will. The Chargers are not about a coach as was displayed during the Marty era. Their winning mentality comes from the players, most importantly L.T. and the rising Phillup Rivers. As long as the roster stays in tact the players will carry this team further than last year, no matter who is calling the plays.
