I have tried every trick I know of to try to get my computer to write a simple powerpoint presentation onto a CD-R I recently bought. For some reason, when I try to write the files to the CD-R it gives me an error message and says it can't write. What, if anything, can I do?

There are several things you could try.

Try getting a cd-rom cleaner to clean the lens of your cd writer.

Try another burning software.

Check to make sure all the connections are seated properly.

Make sure you are not running a lot of programs, or if you have spyware and adware on the computer.

Other than that, you could try another cdrom. Just take it to a computer shop and ask them if you can test it with another cd-rom. It doesn't take that long to test.

I would try writing to another CD after considering the placement of the CD in its tray. If I push the disk all the way to the left in the indentation it burns well, otherwise I end up with a headache.

I know it sounds silly, but it worked for me and I haven't had to toss a disk since because it was "bad".

Good luck

CDs are a humorous lot, till they're just about suited they are no longer going to artwork ok. i do no longer use rewritables i might quite purchase lesser high priced CDs yet they're one use and if I screw one up I record it in 13 and in basic terms start up over. workplace Depot sell their type very sensible like 50 for roughly $10.00 that works out to approximately 20 cents apiece.

it may be of some wrong condition:
1- your CD was damaged(use another CD)
2- you use wrong soft ware to write.use xp tools for write on CD by right click on your file and click send to:)
3- windows of your computer needs to be refreshed.
(be informed that you must restart your computer after installing the CD-R)

Try a different one! If it works, throw the bad one out! Its not entirely uncommon to find a bad blank once in awhile and while we are on the subject, bulk no name bargain packs are not worth the bargain! I found Staples brand to be 30 percent bad once!

Yeah, check the IDE cables to make sure they're in properly, if it still doesn't work, buy a new one!
