i'm practing with powers and learning about how to channel them. someone at school found out about this and they asked if i am a sender or a reciever. can i be both?

Well... in telepathy yes, people can send or receive. But there are people who can do both. And it is not Wicca related.
But, I think someone got a little info and was not clear in what they got.
In witchcraft, we have a hand that can sense the energy on an item, sometimes referenced as the hand that can receive, and then we have our hand that projects energy, sometimes called the projecting or sending or dominate hand.
You will see this when people are choosing crystals, they will hold the crystal with their sending, or dominate hand, and see what they can feel with their receiving hand. We also find this when we test the "strength" of a particular magical herb. We will put a bit of the herb on our receiving hand to test the strength.
We also use this when we are creating a circle. We hold the wand, or athame, in our dominate hand, sending energy through the wand as we circle the group or the space to set the circle in place.
And when we work magic, we send our energy with our dominate hand to the task we have set.
I think someone you were talking to was getting only part of the information. This will help you understand better some of the terms we use and maybe help you to do your research and work at this a bit better.

Before you go messing with energy do some studying. You are going to get yourself into real trouble if you just believe what other people just tell you.
They may be referring to the Receptive Nature of some to pick up energy or Psychic Signals. Some of these people can read others emotions and feelings. Others see dead people and others are psychic vampires who feed on the emotions and feelings of others
The Projective Nature or Sender is the thoughts, feelings and emotions that are brought out. This is typical of someone who can easily lead others to do what they want or to feel the same way that they do.
Most people can do both of these. But one is usually more dominant than the other.

well, you are a true witch, of Wicca and well the sender is the person who can send things into the mind of other, they can send things, yes it is hard to say. The receiver is the one who can feel others, they sense the presence of things. Also you are not the only one of the Wiccan blood. And yes you can also be both like me. Why not we talk. yes, a sender is someone who can transfer power into another object or person, and a receiver is someone who can draw power from outside sources, in Wicca most of use are trained to do both.

In Wicca there can be anything, because people make up as they go along and then call it "tradition". Sure, people can claim to be senders, recievers, etc., but actually being able to do it is another thing.
If you can really send and recieve thoughts, why not take Randi's $1,000,000 challenge and make yourself a millionaire?

you can be both, but often people are better at sending messages or energies and others are better at recieving messages or visions. I tend to be a reciever.
