todays economy is a corporate economy. It favors the rich. The gap between the two keeps getting wider. There are record numbers in severe poverty. The number of poor is at a 30 year high.

in the U.S., the gap between social classes continues to broaden. For every rich man, there are a hundred poor men.

Sadly for every rich person, it just means somewhere someone is getting the shaft.

One of the best books I ever read is "Rich Dad, Poor Dad", and was recommended by a relative while I was in college. It said something very true: the poor work for their money, and the rich make their money work for them. I found that pretty profound. I feel that the rich are more willing to find out how to do that. The knowledge is out there for anyone willing what little work it takes to find out. I also think a semester of financial planning should be included as mandatory in high school curriculum. We'd have a lot less people on welfare if people understood how to work their money. Most people don't even have a clue how much they could save just by itemizing on their taxes. They use some tax service where the person handling their taxes takes a 2 week course, rather than paying a little extra to a licensed CPA to get back 10 to 20 times as much. I am not rich, but I am am debt free other than my mortgage, and hope to be able to travel when I retire.

Just because the gap is widening does not mean that the poor are worse off. The standards of living for both groups are improving. The poor are certainly better off than they were 50 years ago.

The poor are still improving, but it is at a slower rate. Travel around the world and you will see people who live in actual poverty. Most of the world's poor do not have air conditioning, refrigerators, cars, television sets, stoves, running water, sewage, electricity, washing machines or even a steady food supply. Poor people in Somalia are starving. Poor people in America are obese. Many of the world's poor do not have shelter. Many of the world's poor do not have a change in clothes.

The rich have the guts to earn what they get. While there are abuses in every system, there are a lot of very good people who earned every cent that they have.
Some of the poor are there because they want to be there. They have generations in their family who have lived off of governmental hand outs, and have zero desire to change. There are also poor who just can't do any better than what they currently are doing. It is not, generally, the fault of the rich that those who are poor, are just that poor. No decision on the part of most of those who are rich caused the poor to be poor. Some of the poor are so because of bad decisions on their part, and that is their fault. I do not believe that the rich should be punished for being rich. I happen to know of a man who now is very wealthy. He got there because he had an idea for making the lighting towers and beams used in the television and stage sets today. He started out as just another worker. He saw a way to do things better and began a business that thrived. Should he be penalized for his success, I think not.

it is ridiculous. Greed is rampant among republicans and the rich. Really, all they care about is money. They want the money that would otherwise go to the poor. The gap has widened massively in the last 25 years. i am so sick of it. The middle class will disappear if something is not done soon.

The gap is growing.

Violence and crime affecting lower and working class neighborhoods: : In some neighborhoods, residents are afraid to leave their houses at night fearing they could be a random shooting target. Because of a lack of opportunities and loss of hope for a large segment of the population there has been a corresponding rise in murders (young people killing other young people)
