I have had that problem for years. Fortunately, I am in a position to go with the flow--sleep when I am tired, and be up and do things when I am awake.
Caffiene is not the only culprit--some medications also create anxiety and insomnia.
Best way is to first rule out anything medically wrong, then keep a journal of everything you eat and drink and when, how well you sleep or don't sleep, how tired you are when awake, what are your stress levels. Anticipation, even for someting good can disrupt your sleep, so can worry.
Under your doctor's care, try a sleep aid or tension aid, try to make your routine as consistant as possible--winding down at least an hour before bed, going to bed at the same time each night and getting up the same time every morning.
You may just be a night person. Everyone has a different biological clock, yours may be set to be wide awake when most other people sleep.
If it keeps up you may have to adjust your lifestyle to accomodate your sleep patterns.
Good luck.

I have insomnia also,Not sure about your age. Hormone's can play a huge part,What works for me is getting up at the same time every morning and going to bed at same time (within an hour).I sometimes only sleep a couple of hours a night,Sleep will come. Stress, anxiety or excitement, worry can also cause insomnia.

Anxiety, the fact you've had enough sleep in the day/morning, things on your mind, diet, adrenaline. Could be many things that are keeping you awake. Soothing music, warm milk, counting sheep, getting up and just doing something til you will sleep, reading, burning oils, crosswords all can help get you back to sleep. Unfortunately unless you take sleeping pills you should just relax, not worry about WHY you can't sleep and do something to pass the time till it happens.

You are still up, because you are a night owl and you have a lot of energy. Try eating carbs at night and wind down by listening to some elevator music while you are lying in bed.
Don't take any pills, there are more natural products out there without the side effects and it helps me.
