First, there have only been 43 presidents (or does that number count Cleveland twice?) and there are 50 states. And considering that states had been in the process of joining the Union for some 175 or so years, for many elections, many states were not states at the time, and the presidents were from the existing states. Now add that there are states with multiple presidents from them, and you have many, many states that did not spawn a president.

And with a state with low population, like Montana, the chances get even slimmer.

.

Montana doesn't have a large electoral base to call upon. with only 3 electoral votes to count for carrying his home state, even carrying all states bordering Montana would bring you up to 21.

Now a candidate from California (like Nixon or Reagan) would start off with 55, Texas (Bush& Bush) 34, New York (Hillary) 31. Montana doesn't have the big money graft floating around that makes a candidate viable. GWB brought in more money for his Presidential campain than anyone in history. Most of that was oil money. Clinton had Tyson chicken, Hollywood. The heartland candidates are pretty much screwed.

Because Montana doesn't exist, so there is no one from Montana to be President. Seriously, because of the whole not-having-a-substantial-population thing.

Maybe because no one from Montana has ever run for President.

This is obviously they spend so much time eating the boxed potato flakes from Idaho to even THINK about being President. Don't be silly.
