I live there and you don't want to go to Islamorada instead unless you are just planning on fishing and laying at the beach.
Duval St is an all night party and there are tons of tourist-y things to do during the day. Great place to visit. Average place to live, unless of course you have money to burn.

Its great....and warm and humid. Lots of great bars. You can even rent a Harley to ride around on. And everyone goes down and watches the sunset. Its a real laid back place. Definitely shorts....for everything...unless you like being in the buff....and they have places there for that also.

Definitely go to Isla Morada.
