I used soap to clean my vulva (outer part of your vagina where the labia and clit are). this was my first time using soap because i normally use more gentle non soap cleaners. and now i have this very bad irritation. If anyone that has real experience can share what happened to them and how long it took for the irritation to go away will be appreciated!

It may take a few days for the irritation to clear up but if it doesn't pls have your dr check it out to see what is going on.

As for cleaning products to the area I use Physoderm (I found it to be gentle for me) and I also found that when I used to have smells during my period that the Physoderm helped to keep it under control.

I had started using the Physoderm down there as a result of an accident when I didn't have any other thing to clean there with.

In the mean time with the irritation you could try putting an ice pack on the area or sitting on a bag of frozen peas to see if that helps.
