The Swift-boaters did not say anything about McCain. No, the neocon machine took the "honorable" course of using a push poll question before the South Carolina primaries, insinuating that McCain fathered an illegitimate child by a Vietnamese woman. Incidentally, those who passed these out and out lies about Kerry also admitted they never even served with him!

They will not have to. McCain has SwiftBoated himself. First, he alienated the conservative right, and now he has alienated the moderate middle. Either he is getting the worst political advice in the history of politics, or he is going insane.
The real kiss-of-death came during the 2006 Presidential campaign when McCain stumped for Bush even though the whole world knows that he hates the guy (and with just cause). That degree of hypocrisy destroyed his up-front, straightforward, and honest reputation – and with it, any chance of his becoming president.
