I hear you! Having sex did not work for me. I went into labor at 41 weeks (the day before my scheduled induction). I was miserably uncomfortable, so I can totally relate to how your feeling!
I think sex is supposed to work because there is a chemical in the semen that can trigger labor. Again... this did me no good! Neither did walking up and down my neighborhood forever!
My baby is 5 weeks now. Let me tell you this... you may not believe me, but as miserable as I was, I miss being pregnant now. Enjoy it while you can!
PS I never dilated past 1cm. I ended up with a c-section.

Well, the tricky thing is that it doesn't work like a magic pill. It has to work in conjunction with your body being ready, and if your body isn't ready then it won't bring on labor.
I do encourage you to not give up though. Not only is this the last time you and your spouse are going to be able to "do it" for about 6 weeks, but your body may start to respond. If you can orgasm that really helps get some contractions going. The semen act to soften the cervix.
Other than sex you can try walking.
Sorry you are uncomfy. My son was 10 days late and I remember thinking he would never come out.
Hope it happens soon.

It only works as a trigger if the baby is ready to come. You could still have a week and a half! Sex worked the first time for me, but I was at 41 weeks. At my friend's suggestion, my husband was not gentle with me, and immediately after I felt yucky. A few hours later that yucky feeling turned into early labor cramps, and after 8 hours of active labor, my son was born.
I'm sorry you're so miserable! Hang in there! Your baby is getting stronger by staying in, remember that. Good luck!

The first answer is right! You think your not getting sleep now, just wait till the baby gets here! Don't rush, but do enjoy the sex now. It does help, and so does the semen. It supposed to cause the cervix to dilate. Walking is what did it for me, I walked until I couldn't walk no more. Most first pregnancies are a week or two late. I was a week past my due date, and I gave birth to an 11lb. 3oz baby!
Have as much sex as you want it couldn't hurt anything!

LOL, this sounds like me! I'm 39 weeks and 3 days so I definately know how you're feeling : ( Unfortunately I don't have an answer for you. I've been trying the sex thing too for a few days, nipple stimulation (which seemed to have an effect right away, but nothing that had progressed), and drinking raspberry tea. I do know that sex and any other natural inducing technique won't work until our baby's are ready... kinda lame I know... I'm in this with you (at least our husbands are having fun, right...?)

i don't know about sex starting labor, but i have heard that walking ALOT will, riding in a car over bumpy roads or castor oil. But as my grandmother told me..Babies come in their own time. So maybe none of it helps. I know how you feel though. It'll be over soon.
