My job is boring, not very challenging at all and while it is in the line of work I am interested in, it is not the job I want in the industry. There is very little potential for promotion and the little chance there is will not become available until 1.5 year from now. However, I love my group! First group I felt like I was really a part of. We have similar personalities and work as a team.

If I were to get an offer to do the work I want to do for a different company for a bit more pay, should I take the position?

Work is obviously sociall outlet for you, not just a job. Do you fear if you change jobs that those friendships woudl no longer be there? If that's the case then they are aquaintances not friendships. Lovely ones, but not worth putting your best interest on the back burner for. If you long for more challenge or pay, then you have to broaden your options. Hopefully your office pals will keep in touch.

First, I would take into account how long you've been at this job. In my experience within just the retail community, it does take some time to become in the promotion-eligible category. Having a great team to work with is definitely hard to come by, but what would make the wait worth it, it seems, would be if you are making enough to support yourself and whatever else makes your life enjoyable, not just "surviving". Second, check out the options available to you within other companies and don't worry if you'd like to interview with someone else (keeping that to yourself not to jepordise your current situation) and find out what the pros and cons of your options might hold. Best of luck to you!

It depends on your priorities. If you want to get ahead, make more money, advance, etc. then yeah, find a new job and go for it. Keep the former workmates as friends. If on the other hand you don't really care about more money, are not that career motivated, etc. then hang for a while and enjoy the camaraderie - it comes along rarely. It may not last and if it starts to change don't be the last one out.

what you have to ask yourself is, will that bit more money make up for the connection you feel with your current co-workers, and is this the same job or one more along the lines of what you really want to do, simply put if you can live off of what your making now, but really enjoy the people you are with, I might say stay, just find some way to make the job more entertaining, the people around you semm like they wouldn't have a problem with that
