Romeo and Juliet is one of Shakespeare’s most famous tragedies, written in 1595. The story itself was not anything new or different, but the way Shakespeare wrote the story made it popular.
This story had no particular time in which it was to take place so most people assume that it took place either before 1595 or after.

Transportation in 1595 consisted of horses, wagons, and foot.
There were many different discoveries and inventions that took place before 1600 such as Leonardo da Vinci's drawing on air travel, but very few in transportation of the practical nature.

By horseback and foot (primarily), and the myriad of carts and wagons drawn by oxen, donkey, or horse, and coaches and carriages drawn by horses (usually), were the main modes of transportation during the late 1500's and early 1600's (Shakespearean times).
