What time is normal and/or healthy to go to bed each night?
And also I rarely sleep 8 hours each nite, usually 6-6.5 hours.
I just don't sleep well through the nite and have trouble actually falling asleep, any suggestions so that I can get to sleep earlier and fall asleep quicker and better throughout the nite without getting up during the nite?

if you wake up at night, you MIGHT have sleep apnea. Get it checked out, because it can be serious.

The average night sleep requirement varies from person to person. I would not be concerned about 6.5 hours each night as long as it is a restful sleep. To help fall asleep, try to follow a routine night after night at the same time each night as you prepare for bed. Soon your body will adjust and those items in your routine will trigger sleep.
You did not mention why your waking up...it it to use the bathroom? if so you might check prostrate..this is a early sign but not knowing your age, it might not be this at all. I suffer from sleep Apnea, which, in it's early stages can cause a restless night, among other serious symptoms such as low oxygen percentages in the blood that often leads to heart attacks. If none of this sounds like your symptoms, then I might recommend an over the counter med called "melatonin" the natural chemical found in the body that induces sleep.

The earlier you go to sleep at night, the better quality sleep you have. I read that the ideal sleeping hours should be from 10pm (or earlier) to 6am. Every hour after 10 cuts into your good quality sleep. If you have a really hard time I heard that melatonin is a good natural way to help you get to sleep. Avoiding caffeine is good and you can also try to drink chamomile tea at night, but not too much or you will be up going to the bathroom all night! Stressing out about falling asleep can keep you awake too. If you really can't fall asleep, try reading a boring book for awhile. Good luck!

children and teens need 10 hours
adults need only 8 hours
and the elderly only need 6 hours

How much sleep you get, doesn't really matter if it is not a comfortable sleep. You should find a comfortable bed, and try something simple at first, like warm milk with honey. It really works.

Always start with what we call "sleep hygeine." That means avoiding caffeiene late in the day, alcohol also is bad, exercise earlier in the day.

Medications can be adddicting and may eventually wear off.

Avoid watching TV in bed. Bed is only for sleep and you know what.
