Think of the "average" family of 2 parents & 2-3 kids. How do YOU quantify a "middle-class" income - before or after taxes? I do have my own political affiliation, but I won't give it away...Just curious.

OK- I am talking specifics here - dollar figures, not generalizations. I would LOVE to make 6 figures and be considered middle-class. All this talk about tax cuts for the middle-class - don't you first have to establish what middle class is based on income? If you can base poverty level on an income amount - the same should be said for middle class, but very few people here have actually given a number. It appears to be somewhat of an enigma. As a frame of reference - I consider myself middle class. Married/3 kids/mortgage/and income UNDER $60K a year (net).

Hello,

Well, I am not quite rich and not quite poor either. I am middle class before and after taxes. My family has four members and we are on one income. I am doing my best to start a job at home to bring in some extra money.

I would be happy making six figures. To be a millionaire, which is no big deal these days, is not even in my sights.

To not live paycheck to paycheck would be a dream.

Can you help me with this dream?

Thanks and Hope this helps you..............

When you can pay a 25year mortgage, put away 5k a year for each kids college, and 5k each a year for retirement, pay for family's medical and have enough for a real nice vacation once a year, and put away 20k a year, you have exited the middle class.

small town USA... 30 - 80 k

cities 50 - 120 k

this can vary a little based on the exact area... say san fran and NYC would be even higher due to the higher cost of living compared to most other cites...

First of all I don't agree with your assertion that: "Politicians love to talk about the "middle class". Today's politicians hate to talk about the American middle class, because they are selling us out. And they know it.
