When you order the ants you dont get a queen. I dont want to dig them up in my back yard, so does anyone know if I can order ants with a queen somewhere? If I do dig them up out of the backyard, will it be easy to get the queen? Or is this just a bad idea all together?

They die in three months without one. Plus I thought it would be neater to watch the little ants with the whole colony there not just the worker ants.

Plus im not worried about being bit because im going to make my husband dig up the ants.

From the "Discover This" website regarding their Uncle Milton Ant Farms

"Do you send queen ants?
Federal agricultural regulations prohibit us from selling or shipping the queen ant. Since only the queen reproduces, the regional ecological balance is cited as the main concern. The ant farms were also not designed to house the large queen and the thousands of offspring she produces. The ants will work without the queen. "

There appears to be a good reason why there was no queen sent and introducing one to your ant farm could cause significant problems for both you and for the ants.

You'll never get the queen by digging an ant mound. I guess they're supposed to send one, but do you really need a queen?

Won't the ants just make tunnels in the sand anyway?

Why would you want a queen? Are you planning on reproducing them? Why? You don't need a queen to enjoy an ant farm.Probaly a bad idea if they could reproduce and somehow they got out of the farm.

ok..i think youll have to dig to get the queen ant..

first find an ant hill (or a hole)..then mark it in a way to create a 2 m. radius around the hole..then dig up to 3 m. being careful not the over do it or youll kill hte queen ant since you dont know where exactly the queen ant is..for every soil that you dig..look carefully for the queen..

but be carful though..coz your dealing with ants..red ants..
