I mean...of course not all of them...but enough of them to make such a generalization. i am not way...was raised that being flashy like that is foolish. i was just wondering where does that come from? i mean i think it is okay if you have money to enjoy it...but some people like rappers go way overboard...to the point where it is sickening. and what is worst...there are just as many people with no money at all that spends all they have just to look like they have it. what is up with that???

Big trouble
I am entitled to my own opinion. There is no need to call me out of my name. This has been an issue in the black community for quite some time and it is holding us back. Do your research. There are many educated black people who feel the same way as I do. Just yesterday there was a program on BET about the top 25 things that have brought the black community down. Guess what was on the list?? Blingy Jewerly. It's not the fact that people show off. Yes, people do that no matter what race. Grills, huge rims on their cars, clothing where the name brand is clearly visible, blingy jewelry....these are things that are associated with only one group of people and for good reason. We are huge consumers for these products. Do not say that I am no better than a klansman. I am a very proud beautiful black woman. I am also someone that if i can, do my best to attempt to better my people. If that can be just advice or input..then so be it. This is a real issue and it should not be masked

A lot of them grew up with nothing, and they fantasize about all that they see on television and the movies. When the money starts coming in they start buying all of the things that makes them feel like they have arrived. I guess there should have been more movies made about when to say when.
Yes, enough is enough.

It doesn't have to do with skin color or anything. Lots of people are that way. Most of society is whether they realize it or not. It has to do with insecurity. When people are insecure they have to kep up with the rest of society in their consumer habits to try to fit in. People that wear a ton of jewelry are trying to make the statement 'I am secure and I matter' mostly to convince themselves. Same with people who need to have the 'best car' or most electronic gadgets. Secure people just get what they use or need, and the couple toys that they actually play with because they find them fun.

It originated from Hip/Hop music. If you watch any of their music videos, they wear baggy jeans, hats and Stunnas (aviator-like glasses).

When you see celebrities wearing something, people usually think "WOW, If i wore that i would be cool because such and such wears it!" So they try to imitate that image.

Also they think its cool. Its a fashion trend being "ghetto"
Also many girls and guy just spend money on cloths because they might want to try to impress a certain boy or girl and they want to belong in a group. No one wants to be a loner.

EDIT:
"read what bill cosby said about his opinion of it."
Opinions are opinions.

It's always the black people...There are rappers of different races. Not just black. Like Eminem or Bubba Sparxxx. People mimic us by making up these idiotic generalizations about us.

give me a break, thats a stupid generalization. u obviously watch too much tv, and don't know that many black people.

i walked 22 years as a black person, i'm telling u rite now you are spreading an unfair stereotype. why don't u go ask those black people? or are u too busy looking down on them to speak to them?
bill cosby is a hypocrite who runs his mouth. i couldn't care less about him.
