i was going to do windows defender, but found that i can't since i'm running windows 2000 on this computer. any ideas? i need something free and good. any help would be wonderful. thanks!

Ad-Aware SE Personal and/or Spybot Search and Destroy are both great (free) programs. Just go to www.download.com and you will probably see them both on the right hand side as most popular downloads. Just download, install, update and run them.

I recommend that you go to http://www.download.com and get AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search & Destory. Install, run, update and scan your computer with both programs.
These are cleanup tools. Ad-aware cleans files, and SpyBot cleans the registry
