It has everything to do with teaching! Basically, Bloom's theory explains the different mental processes through which we learn.

It such a diffiicult topic to summarise, but I think Wikipedia has done a good job. This is just an extract:

There are six levels in the taxonomy, moving through the lowest order processes to the highest:

Knowledge
Exhibit memory of previously-learned materials by recalling facts, terms, basic concepts and answers
Questions like: What is...?

Comprehension
Demonstrative understanding of facts and ideas by organizing, comparing, translating, interpreting, giving descriptions, and stating main ideas
Questions like: How would you compare and contrast...?

Application
Using new knowledge. Solve problems to new situations by applying acquired knowledge, facts, techniques and rules in a different way
Questions like: Can you organize _______ to show...?

Analysis
Examine and break information into parts by identifying motives or causes. Make inferences and find evidence to support generalizations
Questions like: How would you classify...?

Synthesis
Compile information together in a different way by combining elements in a new pattern or proposing alternative solutions
Questions like: Can you predict an outcome?

Evaluation
Present and defend opinions by making judgments about information, validity of ideas or quality of work based on a set of criteria
Questions like: Do you agree with.....?

----
The idea is to have all this in mind when you do your lesson plans. Ask yourself, what do I want my students to achieve with this activity?

But of course... the theory is out there. How you apply it is up to you.

GOOD LUCK!

1. a teacher uses it in questioning...which should be central to your teaching...pulling out what the student already knows, and getting them to think independently
2. it's questioning...it has everything to do with teaching...socratic method anyone?
3. sorry, been out of college too long...the socratic method, er....i'm struggling here...the blooms method?? eh?

blooms is key....just go to a teacher supply store and get a flip chart. this will help you remember, help you form great question, improve your teaching if you suck at questioning, and help you realize just how important blooms actually is!
