She has got to be one of the wealthiest people in the US and yet she spends her wealth that was earned here in South Africa. Are there not many US young girls that could use the help? I have heard her justification that the girls in South Africa don't have the same opportunities. Also, what about the young MEN of both countries? Her actions seem both racist and sexist to me.
Of course I know it's her $ but there's such a big deal being made about how wonderful it is and yet I think she has chosen to help only a select few, rather than impartially helping all who might benefit. Am I wrong?

OK-I already acknowledged that it is her money and I'm not asking if I have the right to say what she does with it.
Oh and Pink? Who were the majority of homeless people after Katrina? That's right, DEAR-black women. Everyone else gets criticized for singling out a particular race or sex as special or different , why not Oprah?

I figured if I was wealthy I'd make some mistakes so I shouldn't say too much here but I heard (don't watch the Oprah show), that she gave an audience cars during one of her shows....I think she should have given that money to poor Americans or poor people anywhere in the world instead of giving it to people who don't need it. But as for giving money to South Africans....in a way it is biased but at the same time we know that there has been a struggle there....it is sort of a grey area because yes, we do have poor people here in the U.S.

That's a tough one to answer. She is doing alot of good over there for people who have a lot less going for them than those in the USA. Though America is what has made her what she is today, and as yourself some would have the opinion that she should give back to her own so to speak. I'm sure there would be alot of people in the USA who need help just as much. I think there is not much of a role model in South Africa for the children to better themselves. Maybe she sees it as a way of starting a chain reaction there. Whereas in the USA you are surrounded by alot of successful people?

I think you are wrong. Would you like to be told what to do with your wealth if you had it? Remember Oprah DID build a neighborhood for homeless after Katrina.. that was in USA dear. She has given and started up many charities. She was doing what I believe grandmother started in Africa years ago. If i was wealthy, I would give money to my reservation in Canada to help our the poor from my family roots.. no one else is doing it, so why can't I if I had the money? Besides, I think our GOVERNMENT should be responsible for our country... not Oprah. And for that matter... why arent other celebrites giving money to our country is you think Oprah should be?

The "Angel network" is used here states side. I agree with her and it is her right to spend her money in any way she sees fit. There are so many organizations in our own country that benefit underprivileged persons and sadly none in South Africa. They need to be educated in order to improve their own lives.. And in South Africa women aren't looked at the same as men are they are thrown to the side.

I don't think you're wrong to feel that way, and you're right, it is her money. What bothers me is that this was so publicized. You would think that if she really wanted to do good, she could do it without the whole world watching. Why couldn't she have donated money to some organization to improve education anonymously? I think she's in it more for the attention than anything. It's a good deed done for the wrong reasons.

women always have it worse thsn men. even here in the USA, women still only make 60 cents to every dollar that men make. US women could use the help, but there are many resources already available here. there are womens shelters for abused women, planned parenthood will always stand for informed desicions about ones life; meaning a girl will generally have a place to go.

i don't know much about soth africa, or africa in general, but i do know that over ther, they need more help than we do right now.

She tried and became disillusioned with the lack of motivation, interest and commitment to education of the "needy youth" in the US. Seems they are spoiled, feel entitled and are not interested in educating themselves or working. She took her help to students who would appreciate just how precious it was and would use it to make a difference.
