YES!!! You can get pregnant even though you drink a lot. HOWEVER, I would seriously recommend NOT drinking if you are planning on becoming pregnant. You could cause your child to have fetal alcohol syndrome.

According to Web MD, fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) is the term for severe birth defects caused by heavy alcohol use (5 or more drinks on at least one occasion) during pregnancy.

Children with FAS have:

-Characteristic facial features, which include a small head, flat face, narrow eye openings (slits), a short upturned nose, a flattened groove between the nose and the upper lip (philtrum), and a thin upper lip. Although a single trait may be hard to pick out, the head and face just don't seem to "look right" in a child with FAS.

-Low birth weight and slowed growth. A newborn weighs less than 2500 g As children with FAS grow, they are at or below the 10th percentile in height or weight (or both) in growth charts that compare them with other children of the same age and sex.
Central nervous system abnormalities, including small head size, mental retardation, poor fine motor skills, or poor eye-hand coordination.

-Behavior and thinking (cognitive) problems, which may include poor attention, concentration, memory, and comprehension skills; difficulty with math skills; hyperactivity; and extreme mood changes.

Talk to your doctor or ob/gyn about healthy prenatal care. Unhealthy habits can make it difficult to conceive.

Just about anything can impede attempts to get pregnant. Stress is notorious for messing with couples trying to make a baby.
Drinking, smoking and a whole bunch of other things cause problems making, and growing the baby. It is not simply a matter of being healthy long enough to get pregnant. You would do well to live your life that way....or, at least the 10 months before and 6 months after. Who knows, you might like the way it makes you feel, too.

There are so many things that can complicate a pregnancy, it is no wonder the amount of issues women face throughout.

Good Luck.

First of all, if you are trying to conceive, you need to stop drinking now. I don't think drinking would prevent you from getting pregnant, but for the health of the baby you should stop.

If you have tried a couple of times, don't worry. Sometimes it takes several tries...it doesn't mean that anything is wrong with either you or your partner. The general guideline is if you have been trying to conceive for a year with no luck, then you consult a fertility expert.

In the meantime, start preparing. Please check out the link below and follow those guidelines for a healthy diet before conceiving. Good luck!

I have heard that drinking can lower sperm count but i dont have any specific answers on how much it can lower your chances. Usually a drink or two can relax you and help in the conception. (not to mention the MANY drunken conceptions that have taken place that were unexpected!!) I would cool it with the excessive drinking especially since you will have to stop when you get pregnant anyway and have your man slow it down too to keep the little swimmers up in numbers! Good luck!!!

Many pregnancies happen while the partners are tipsy. As far as I know, drinks have little or nothing to do with the sperm count or conception.
I suggest you see your doctor. There could be a medical reason for either of you as to why you are not getting pregnant.
My mom needed surgery in order to have kids. You or your husband's condition may or may not be so drastic, but if you want children, it's worth getting things checked out.
Good luck!

It's better to not not drink excessively when TTC. However, I do know that a handful of my friends got pregnant after some fun drunken nights. Overall, you should really start treating your body a little differently. You want your body to be more than prepared to carry a child. Just be smart about your choices. Good luck!

YES! But You need to quit drinking before u get pregnant anyhow, One because u are usually 4-5 weeks pregnant before u ever get a + test and two it won't be as hard to quit once u are pregnant. Good Luck

Honestly, yes it can affect both you and your husbands ability to conceive. I understand that you are upset about the other responses, but most of them are correct. It would be detrimental to your unborn child to drink during conception and even worse to continue to drink while pregnant. The alcohol will severley curtail the development of his sperm. Also, it may take more than a," couple times". Be smart stop drinking as long as you are thinking about kids. For their sake.

Yes. I do know that alcohol lowers a man's sperm count but certainly not to the point of impotence.

Keep in mind that should you get pregnant the baby will develop an alcohol syndrome as he/she developes --- so it's really bad to drink once you are PG. (An occational glass of wine is okay.)

Truth is you guys should see a doctor for testing (not because you drink) but to sort out any sperm/egg problems.

Good Luck and God Bless.

"Female alcohol intake was associated with 2–3 times the adjusted risk of spontaneous abortion compared with no intake, and male alcohol intake was associated with 2–5 times the adjusted risk. Only the adjusted relative risks for 10 or more drinks/week compared with no intake were statistically significant. Both male and female alcohol intakes during the week of conception increased the risk of early pregnancy loss." (from the American Journal of Epidemiology)

MOST IMPORTANTLY: from the same article: "Alcohol is present in semen relatively shortly after ingestion, and it may also interfere directly with conception and thereby implantation."

I hope this answers your question. Stop drinking if you want to get pregnant.
