Didn't happen to me, but could happen to anyone I guess. No big deal, it's a lot of blood to be seeing and a lot of emotional upheaval upon seeing your child for the first time.
Sounds like a very active vasovagal response (that's why my doctor called it when my daughter and I both faint a lot due to a variety of factors, such as heat exhaustion, low blood sugar, pain, or whatever). If you want to know more, check out the links below about vasovagal syncope (fainting).
Still, I wouldn't read too much into it. He's perfectly normal (in that respect anyway ;-) )!

Normal. My boyfriend is currently doing rehearsal to try to NOT faint when i give birth. He watched his best-friend (a girl) a few years back give birth, he made his head bleed when he hit the floor. My pregnancy support group tells me "that's typical".

my husband did suprisingly well when our babies were born, but my brother in law fainted when my sister gave birth. It's a very stresfull time, and usually it involves sleep deprivation, a missed meal or two, and witnessing lots of blood and bodily fluids. I think it's a very normal reaction.

Didn't happen to me, but it's totally normal. I've heard of guys getting physically sick too. Mine was totally freaked out about the whole thing. He was worried about the goop and the blood and watching it all. He said he'd wait outside!! lol.
But, he was really quite the opposite when it came down to it. He was examining the placenta and my doc was telling him about the different veins and all kinds of details. I have so many pics of my placenta you wouldn't believe...
I nearly fainted!! lol.

Don't feel bad my husband didn't faint, but right after our son was born his eyes glazed over and he just kept mumbling "that's my boy that's my boy" over and over again. Then he walked straight into the wall. Best of all I've got it all on video tape. I think its normal all the excitement just kinda overwhelms them,

Sorry, I found that cute. Honey, some guys can't handle the stress. Women are typically stronger in those areas than the fellas are. Stress of sudden fatherhood can be quite overwhelming to some guys.
