In a continent with extreme poverty, Oprah chooses a single country, builds a school with money that could be used to build about 11 or even more schools across the continent and handpicks a few girls for the school. do you think this is realistic? What about the many poor children?, what about the boys? say out your mind. Though I respect O, I think this is ridiculous.

i don't think she's wrong. She chose Africa because that's where her heart is and that's the land of her forefathers.

And she can do what she wants that's her money. and if your talking about her not helping US, she is helping US it's not just that much publicity on it.

I think Oprah is doing/has done a great thing for South Africa. Sure she could have used that money and built 1000 mediocre schools across the continent- but why? So many of those children-even ones not born into poverty- are expected to thrive on mediocrity. The world bank offers countries in africa only 30 % of a loan and they have to pay back 100%. Food Services drop dog food from a plane and expect them to eat it during a drought. Africa has endured so much by the world eve though the production for the worlds resources is the greatest. I say Oprah gave those girls a good chance at being someone in this life and in this world. she saw an oppurtunity ot make a big difference in a bunch of girls' lives- and so she did it. Sure she could have given the moeny to build americas school where kids go to school and kill each other, and they fight all the time, and they are disrespectful, and they break their teachers neck over ipods. yea- make thier pampered lives a whole lot better with a free education- oh i forgot they get that already. I have been to africa, and sat in an african classroom and i saw the respect and attentiveness those children give their teachers- even though there may be 60 other students fo various ages in the class. I love Oprah more for how she changed thsoe lives, and i am looking to see what i can do to make a and difference.

As I watched the special last night, I saw these girls from extreme poverty go to the lap of luxury. I pray these girls will live up to the expectations set before them. It will be a huge adjustment and they will miss their families tremendously. If these girls make the adjustment and thrive through education, it will have a massive impact on their country and ofcourse, their families. It's a risk for sure, but Oprah is not doing it half ***, she's going for the top. She's always aimed high and look where it's gotten her. It's not a risk many would take, but I think it's a risk worth taking. I guess we'll know in about 5-10 years what the impact this school has had on South Africa.
