Zito is a decent pitcher but not a great pitcher. No one is worth the kind of money that gets thrown around in professional sports. Zito will not make that much of a difference as the Barry Bonds issue will continue to get in everyones way. If Zito was that serious about winning he could have gone to three or four other teams with a much better chance of going to the world series.

No. Not a good pickup for that amount of money. If they were going to pay that much, they should've kept Schmidt. I've been an A's fan for the longest time and Zito has been on a steady decline since his Cy Young 2002 season. He didn't look all that great in the years after 2002 with the Oakland A's and I seriously don't think he'll get any better in San Francisco. All in all, Brian Sabean proves once again that he's an idiot.

The Giants make a smart move in picking up Zito. He's durable, wins at least 15 games a year, and he'll teach the younger pitchers as well. The Giants still won't beat the Dodgers for the pennant, but at least they'll have Zito.

Yes, he was a great pickup. However, as long as the Giants keep and protect Bonds, the team will never meld into a winner. Zito's accomplishments, however great they may be, will be lost in the trivial pursuit of Barry the Steroid Bonds.

No, being an A's fan I wa snot happy, but understand we can't $$$ for him. Even though I like Zito he is not the pitcher he was in 02 when he won the Cy. If he cant get his curveball over he is in trouble he has no heat but a good change but with the pen the Gnats have his lead won't last and he will not get as many W as he should or could in the AL. The NL game is diffrent and the game situation determines when you change your pitcher unlike the AL

Adding a pitcher like Zito to your staff, of course, helps the team. But the amount of money they paid is absolutely absurd.
Even if he stays completely healthy for ALL 7 years, and averages 18 wins per year--highly unlikely--the Giants will have paid $1M PER WIN! That kind of math just does not add up.

Yeah, it was a good pick up. Other teams are paying ridiculous amounts of money for pitchers like Gil Meche and Daisuke Matsuzaka. At least Zito is a proven talent.

sabean did something right for a change signing zito because with schmidt gone (to the damn dodgers!) that lineup needs another solid starter. it was a butt load of money that they paid him, but you cant judge right now if all that money was really worth it. i loved zito on the a's... he was my favorite player and person on that team so you could imagine how ecstatic i was that he was crossing over to sf. but zito doesnt seem like the type of person who after he gets a multimillion dollar deal just sits back and starts to suck (ahem a-rod). however people will still watch him closely this season to see if he can live up to his financial worth. he'll do great things in sf... hopefully he will be the one to lift the team deep into the postseason this year!

giants fan here. im happy we got zito, but we definitely overpaid. but considering how the market was, its not so bad. id rather pay zito 126 mill than gil meche 50+ mill. in a few years, this deal might look like a bargain if the market continues to be like this. zito will be a good mentor for our young pitchers like cain and lowry and lincecum. but i say either next year or 2, cain will be our ace and zito our #2. overpaid, but happy to have him, he is durable and pitching in AT&T park should help.

As an A's fan, I've watched Zito his entire pro career, and I'd honestly say he was only the 3rd best pitcher on their team next to Harden and Haren.
