I just graduated from college so now im off my parents insurance. I'm almost sure I have a UTI. I haven't called my normal dr yet but do you think they would still see me if I dont have insurance anymore? how much might it be for the visit and the antibiotics? if not what are some low cost options?

standard dr's office visit in my town (in AZ) runs about 45.00 and the medication is about 25.00 or less for the generic brand. name brands are expensive and can run around 80.00 so make sure to tell your dr you have no ins and would like the generic.

an urgent care visit is about 130.00 plus medications and if you have to go to the er expect the bill to be 450 plus.

make sure to be seen though b/c uti's left untreated can quickly spread to your kidneys causing infection and you can be hospitalized for it (i was twice-i usually don't feel symptoms until my kidneys are infected). some people swear that cranberry juice or over the counter pills such as azo heals the infection but this is incorrect-the bacteria might lay dorment for a while, stopping the symptoms but it will come back and usually worse.

report to the er immediately if:

-you have severe lower back pain that doesn't go away (will be located on one or both sides of your lower back where your kidneys are)
-you begin to urinate blood, bright red in color (pink tinted urine is common with a uti b/c the urethra and ureters (tubes going from bladder to outside the body) are irritated)
-you start to run a fever of 100.5 or higher
-you have nausea or vomiting

these are signs of a kidney infection and you'll need to seek attention asap

good luck to you

Uti Insurance

Buy some Cystex (it's way better than Azo UTI pills)from walgreens or another pharmacy, it's over-the-counter and helps a lot with the pain...it also fights infection. I suggest the cranberry pills rather than the cranberry drinks since most of them contain a high amount of sugar---which is definitely not helpful. Drink LOTS LOTS LOTS of WATER!!!

For Urgent Care - Expect pay pay between $50 -- $150 for the visit, Plus the cost of the meds...which should be less than $20 for generic brand antibiotics. Good Luck!!

I don't know how sure you are that it is a uti, but if you fairly sure,i will tell you what i did. One Friday i went to the doctor and was told i had a uti, but when i took the first pill they gave me it made me sick. On Saturday i had some cranberry juice (the natural cranberry juice, like in health food stores, with only about 8 grams of natural sugar, i like mountain sun) so i mixed the juice and water (because it is way too bitter to drink by itself) and drank about 100 ounces on that Saturday and Sunday. The following Monday i went back to the doctor and they found no sign of an infection!! Sometimes, you really have to watch your water intake, because i notice if i kind of slack off my consumption i tend to get a uti. Good Luck!!

You can go to your doctor and pay for the office visit. Also, I don't know where you are from, but some Walgreens now have a clinic in their stores. If you need an antibiotic, you can take your prescription to Walmart. They have the most common prescribed antibiotics for $3.00. If you have a Meijer in your area, they give it for free. Check their websites for more info.

IF you go to a university or college. they have clinics that are free. if not they have clinics that will help you and you dont need insurance. look it up online. the antibotics for a uti are quite expensive but the results are instant so you might want to risk spending the extra bucks.

If you're not in the US just go to the doctor or the A and E in hospital - you don't need any insurance. Alternatively see if you can get something over-the-counter from the pharmacist.Amoxycillin, Amoxil, Augmentin, Calvepen something like these. Otherwise get well soon. :)

go to an urgent care center or a clinic....either will be cheaper with no insurance....walmart also sells a home remedy for UTI. I dont know what its called but you can ask for it.

Drink some cranberry juice. You don't really need to go to the doctor for a uti anyway. if you take care of your body it will heal itself. I've had uti's before and they healed on their own.
