my ipod just restarted itself?

i hit the next button and it restarted itself.
then its been working perfectly

The ipod is new. I haven't dropped it (i almost have, but it landed on the seat i was in), only scartched it.

Probably one of those minor mechanical glitches that occured in most newly bought gadgets nowadays. Don't worry, as long as it works perfectly now, it will remain that way for quite a while. But do bring it for servicing at the place you bought it or any authorised dealers or service centres if it happens again in the future.

if you hold the middle button and the menu button for a few seconds at the same time it will restart, maybe that accidentally happened. it's most likely perfectly fine.
