you are so right, i remember playing games like FF7 and FF9 too. they had spellbinding (lame word but true) stories, cool music and just it was all awesome. now it seems as if theyre just trying to please kids who are obsessed with violence and/or retarded 3 year olds. like stupid games like Halo or Call Of Duty. The best recent games i played were the GTA games. but man.... you are so right... gamers have just become a ton of loser 13 year olds. not like back in the day of the almighty SNES and N64 and PS1 and all that good stuff. games just suck now.. thats why i just bought in N64 and im trying to get tons of games

I totally feel like you. However, I still enjoy gaming as much as I did when I started. Even though there may not be "as many great games as before" (which I don't think it's true), I can appreciate the masterpieces better than I could years before. In the end it all comes down to personal taste and experience. If I could go to the past and replay for the first time the games I loved but with my current knowledge, I'd probably realize that they weren't so good after all. There are some clear things that should not exist, of course, like DLCs and Online Passes and 1 sequel of a franchise per year (CoD, Assassin's Creed), but newer technologies have also made possible really great franchises like Portal or BioShock. If you notice, the same issue has been going on related to movies, television, and even books nowadays. I wouldn't say it's just the gaming industry. It's just that with gaming is bigger than it was before, and it means that companies will usually appeal to the public that offers the biggest profit. And you can't really blame them, everybody wants to make the biggest money. Even Nintendo. And the thing is, you can always go back to the old games. In the end, how I see it is, enjoy stuff you like, and just don't pay attention to stuff you don't.

It all depends on where you look. There are tons of good videogames with storylines and tons more on the way. As I'm an xbox and Nintendo gamer, I remain exclusively to those consoles in my listing.
On the original xbox, several games with excellent storylines:
Breakdown
Advent Rising
Halo (Read the books to get a full blown story of amazing quality.)
Ninja Gaiden
Star Wars: KOTOR 1 & 2
Fable
Jade Empire
Prince of Persia
Riddick
Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath
Deus Ex: Invisible War
Beyond Good & Evil
On the 360, we have:
Condemned
Lost Planet
Splinter Cell: Double Agent
Prey
Elder Scrolls: Oblivion
Blue Dragon
The Godfather
Hitman: Blood Money
Several upcoming games:
Bioshock
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
Jericho
Alone in the Dark 5
Fable 2
Gamecube also offered several including:
Resident Evil 4
Killer7
Eternal Darkness
Baten Kaitos
I don't remember any off the top of my head, but I'm sure Wii has a bunch as well.
That's just a few off the top of my head. There are many more to look for. You just have to keep your eyes open.

They still exist, just a little harder to find sometimes. I agree they don't make games like the Lunar Series or FF9 anymore. Seems like they are spending more time on graphics than the actual story. I don't think graphics make a game nor do I think a good good story makes a game. There needs to be a good balance of both, but Game play makes a game.

Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 are really good!!! The story line is very complex!!! It has really good graphics It also complex attacks. The bosses are really hard, It took me 3 tries on the last boss!!! And I'm a game pro!!!! It's almost like Final Fantasy!!!! It even has most of the same people!!! Like Leon, Clould, Yufi, and even Sephiroth!!! Over all it's the best game i evered played!!! I would really recommend it!!!

Yeah, FF7 is the only game that brought a tear to my eye. If you want a somewhat recent game with a great story and feelling I would get The Longest Journey 2. Playing Longest Journey 1 is recommended, though it is something like 9 years old now. Still an excellent game (both of them)

Bring back 70+ hour rpgs that make sense...or kick *** games like devil may cry...that game kicked ***!...and there are a few exceptions the the shooting everything in site rule...like Halo...it was amazing!

I would strongly suggest the Tales series. Extremely good RPGs with at worst solid stories. Baten Kaitos and its prequel are also pretty good. Skies of Arcadia kicks tons of *** too.The problem is that there're just simply many, many more games nowadays, so there're more duds...
