I have always been good with kids and we can talk for hours and hours because I never forgot what it was like to be a kid. I wanted to be heard and I wanted to feel like what I said was important to adults.

That is how I talk to kids. I look them straight in the eye and I make sure that the expression on my face coveys the message that I am taking them very seriously and I believe every word they say. (even if I don't).

I also nod and say 'really' after every few words so that they KNOW they have my full attention. I also never try to minimize or 'put them in their place' a smile or two would do wonders also.

Good luck 2U

Don't yell or scream, speak softly with a smile on your face, a little baby talk is okay but only a little, speak properly to the child, obviously keep the language simple but use real words. Encourage the child to answer you, listen and show a genuine interest in all they say, enjoy your conversations together.

You explain things very simply to them. I will take the question that is MOST often asked by young children (5 and under)

"Mommy, where do babies come from?"

"Babies come from a special place in her body. And when the baby is all grown up in mommys uterus, thats the special place!, then she goes to the docotor and he helps her to get the baby out."

It's simple, to the point, and thers nothing dirty about that.

It would really help if you added some more details though..
