Haven't read Macbeth yet, but Romeo & Juliet is considered a good play, although it's highly overated.

Macbeth is by far and away the best of the two. Most people know the story of Romeo and Juliet today, thanks in part, to West Side Story. Macbeth is a darker more intense story, more meaty if you like, but there are precious few people who actually know the whole story. The few I've spoken to have all been able to quote such lines as 'Hubble bubble toil and trouble' or the oft' misquoted 'Lay on Macduff' but have no idea about the storyline.
It's high time a film was made and I suggest the team that made 'Lord of the Rings'.

That **** that said Romeo and Juliet was overated should get a kick in the b*llocks!! It totally rocks, totally makes you cry and is altogether utterly gorgeous. Saying that, there's nothing more satisfying than a bit of gothic and Macbeth is the coolest gothic play ever written. Hmm, it's a tough call. They're both so good in different ways. I've just written an essay for my MA on Macbeth and thoroughly appreciated the play, but the whole "They've made worms meat of me, a plague on all your houses" in Romeo and Juliet might swing it, it's such a great line.

Another Coriolanus fan?! Nice! If anybody wishes to partake in woefully underrated Shakespearean play, please partake.

As for Macbeth versus Romeo and Juliet, it's no contest. While Romeo and Juliet is more popular, Macbeth is a far better work. The themes are richer, and the characters have so much more depth. It's also one of the few plays where Shakespeare wrote a woman well.

I've always been a fan of Macbeth myself. Although both are wonderful plays, I am biased as I have had the opportunity of seeing Macbeth in the theater but have not had the pleasure of seeing Romeo and Juliet

I love Shakespear, and while neither of these are my favorite play, I prefer Macbeth over Romeo and Juliet. My personal favorite is King Lear.
I've had the privilege of seeing a number of Shakespear's plays in the theatre and even played Juliet once in high school.

Macbeth has a more complex story and richer characters. There's not a whole lot of depth to Romeo or Juliet.

Macbeth is my favorite - better quotes. Out, out damned spot. Romeo and Juliet is excellent too, though a little predictable.
