It sounds like it could be conjunctivitis, but since he has a cold as well it could just be that since the eyes and ears are sort of connected, the mucus is backing up into his tear ducts. I know it sounds weird, but it is possible. You are doing the right thing with his eyes. You could try something for his cold that would help him drain. A baby decongestant or even better would be a saline nasal drop or spray. That really helps with congestion, and it's not medicated so you can use it as often as you want. He won't like it, but it has to be better that what he's going through now. Good luck !

It could be pinkeye, but it could also just be the cold he's had, settling in his tiny little tear ducts. This is the more probable of the two, IME.
Wash the eye gently with a warm, damp washcloth when it's sealed shut by mucous. Don't try to pick off any dry bits that won't wipe away; the skin is delicate. Just redampen it a few times until it loosens and comes off with gentle wiping.
If you are breastfeeding, you can express some breastmilk into a clean container, and use a medicine dropper to use the milk as eye drops to soothe the skin, the eye itself, and protect against bacteria. Breastmilk is actually a wonderful first-aid treatment for many minor problems, including newborn acne, cuts & scrapes, minor burns, etc. (Not just for the baby!)
It's still a good idea to see the doctor, and preferably earlier than two days (!!why so long??). They can tell you for sure if it's pinkeye or not, and prescribe eye ointment if it is necessary. If it is just a blocked tear duct suffering from the cold symptoms, they will probably show you how to massage the area around the eyes and sinuses to help clear it up.
Best of luck! I hope your little one is feeling better soon.

Wait til you go to the doctor because it might be pink eye. It also could be if you take the baby out in the night air it might just because the cold weather and the eyes are just adjusting it or the eye might just be fighting off a foreign particle in the eye.

Its nothing serious just sounds like Conjunctivitis to me which my eldest daughter got alot when she had the flu .. Go to your local doctor and they'll prescribe eye drops for him.. In the mean time until you can get in to your doctors either go to the pharmacy and get an over the counter drops but make sure you speak to the pharmasist first or just wash her eyes with salty water.
Good Luck
Oh and dont clean it away with your fingers because then its likely to spread (if you touch your eyes and so forth)

Don't worry this happened to my newborn as in like 1 month old baby cousin and everything was fine. We just got luke warm tea and put in a teeny tiny drop of lemon dabbed the cotton ball in there and washed his eyes. It helps lots. Hope your baby becomes better!

Not to worry. The only thing the Dr. is going to do is give your baby some drops, your child could be developing the pink eye.

If a baby's condition is out of the norm, it is always best to have it checked out. Babies are not like older children or adults, where you can wait it out a few days to see if it changes. Its better to be safe than sorry.
