Learning by rote, is much easier to remember. Hands on approach is much more understandable. I wish that, when i was in High school, they taught by " demonstration ", for , Now I understand, what the books and all the therums meant. Kinda. But if Math, especially would be taught by demonstration, I strongly believe the young adults would percieve it better.
For instance-- Pi X diameter = the circumference. A demonstration
of this , would be--- You have to cover a round platform. Whats the @
length you would need to need to completely go around the sides?
Pi X 6 foot diameter, would @ 18 feet 7 inches ( 3.14 X 6 ).
This comes as a very worthy lesson for later, especially if the student goes on to work in the theatre, be a carpenter, an architect,or just a do-it-yourselfer!! One more valuable demonstration, would be how many square feet, say in a 15' by 14' room? Very simple demo--15 X 14.
210 square feet. This comes in handy when You have to figure out how many square feet, do you need to carpet a specific room. Or, an even more practical use of this theum, would be, to realize, when they say the package covers 14 Square feet. It sounds like a big area, until you figure that 14 square feet, is really just 2 feet by 7 feet
I think this enough to chew on>
Good luck!!!

Humans - even animals - learn by example from their parents. It is called survival.
Until a child is old enough to think and make decision for itself, it picks up from the parent, or other grown-ups. Children have two examples to learn from; parents, who they can manipulate, or teachers which in theory they shouldn't be able to.
Which is why a child will accept the word of a teacher against the opinion of a parent.
A child whose father is always in prison will grow up to think it is no big deal to break the law. Another child, brought up by law abiding parents, will see this in a different light.
Children are easily influenced. Adults need to set a good example. That child is watching you every step of the way and following your example.

Most people retain more information by watching and helping with experiments or demos. Teachers who use manipulative's, and hands on do much better in their classes
