I'm writing a paper. Please tell your reasons why spell check and grammar check are helpful to you.

Ahh...it catches words that I accidentally misspelled or sentences that are run-ons or fragments, this sentence for example is a run on sentence and microsoft word would have caught that so I would not have a run-on sentences.

Spell check in MS Word results in my last name being spelled wrong on junk mail. (Yes, I've fixed it in my copy, but the junk mailers haven't fixed theirs, so whenever I get a piece of mail with my name spelled wrong I know it's most likely junk.) I also used to get paychecks made out to my name spelled wrong. Fortunately, the semi-literate bank tellers accepted them.

(Note that both "Bill" and "Gates" are words which are spelled correctly in a dictionary. Like everything, if it isn't a problem for him, the rest of us have to live with it.)

The grammar check is almost as annoying.
